Report

Here we are, with the last league match of the season and it all depends on us winning and Urmston Meadowside dropping points as to whether we retain our 4th position or go to 5th.

Unfortunately, on the day, we are players short again,  two had gone to the Etihad (not  on transfer) and one playing cricket, but a nice surprice awaited us at Merseybank, when they told us they were unable to field enough players and were making the numbers up with ineligible players, therefore, forfeiting the points and agreeing on a 0-3 win for us.

The game was in effect a friendly but was played for real and so within 30 seconds, Matthew got through on goal and put one past the keeper who didn't seem to know he had left a big gap.  Lots of attacking play from both sides but mainly Sale who, on 3 minutes, put another one in, courtesy of some great play from Mason.  3 minutes later, and another goal but this time for Merseybank, 1-2.  Sale seemed to be showing the biggest threat with some great passing football and just after half on hour, Jake came off to give Benett a run and so the scores stayed the same through to half time.

The second half started in much the same way but Merseybank were getting back in the game more, especially when they brought some of their subs on, one of whom it was rumoured is on the Wigan Athletics books.  On the 15th minute, Mike Smith was brought down in the box and the Referee correctly gave a penalty for Mason to make it 1-3. Joel soon came off to give Ramello some play and then Merseybank went through on goal and the Sale defenders seemed so surprised they didn't move and it was 2-3.  On 25 minutes, David was taken off and Jake back on after a rest and then Bennett came off for Joel to come back on and so it went to the final whistle of the season.

The good news was that Urmston Meds. only managed a draw against Moorside so that meant they couldn't overtake us with their final game so we finished an admirable 4th place in the league.

All the players on the day played well but as officially it was a friendly it was decided to compliment them all with a team match award.

No training this week, as Andy is away, so a week off and we will soon have the presentation date,  to be advised.  Well done all for a great season and so the players who feel they want to carry on in to the Youth section next season I am sure can look forward to a successful one!
