| SALE UNITED FC | 3 |
| ALTRINCHAM | 2 |
When it was found that we were going to be three players down, a quick reshuffle had to be made if we were going to get the 3 points that Andy had set as a target for this game against Altrincham Juniors.
The back four as normal, but a midfield with Mike N and Jake on from kick off, with Mason and David up front. For 15 minutes it was end to end as both teams were testing each other and then Mason managed to squeeze a goal between the post and keeper. On 20 minutes David got a crack on the knee in a goalmouth scrabble and had to come off, Joel on. Ten minutes later another puzzling decision from the referee, who seemed to be at a different game than we were, resulting in him giving a penalty when two Altrincham players were plainly offside before the infringement - scores level.
The second half started with much the same end to end play but with Sale showing most of the pressure and so when against the run of play Altrincham scored from a free kick, it was a jolt to the Sale lads.
It wasn’t long before the determination paid off and when the referee gave us a decision, Smithy buried the penalty kick.
The fight for the winner was on and on 30 minutes Mason put a great ball through for David to sprint through the defence and then one on one on the keeper he slid it past for what was to be the winner. A good match to watch and a good result.
Man of the Match - Jake for his battling mid-field play.
