As Sven would say, good first half, not so good second half. In balmy conditions for the time of year and on an excellent playing surface, we pitched up with 11 players and 1 sub and proceeded to play Trent Park off the park. Our midfield and attack simply ran riot in the first half and created a hatful of missed chances which you somehow felt would come back to bite us in the bum. Kevin Fox was at the heart of most of our attacks and scored a well deserved brace, but really we should have been five or six goals to the good by half time.
As I had predicted earlier in the week, it was a lack of numbers that would do for us. We lost Foxy at half time as he had a prior engagement! and whilst we had an able replacement in Steve Pridmore, the loss of Andy Gale through injury , very early into the second half, left us holding off a re-energised Trent Park for the best part of 35 minutes with 10 men That it took them the majority of the second half to get back on level terms says more about the way we collectively defended. In fact we still created chances to add to our tally, but the first goal from the home side gave them added impetus to push on and gradually it became like the Alamo as the half drew to a close.
We simply ran out of steam at the end and the fourth goal following a C**P pass by the Player-Manager just rubbed salt into the wound. We were mugged good and proper and Trent Park could not believe their luck at our profilgacy in front of goal in the first half and our lack of numbers in the second.
Thanks to those that gave it their best on Saturday. There were, as last week, a lot of positives to take from the game, we never gave up, created lots of scorable chances and battled to the final whistle, but I can-t help thinking we collectively deserved better and but for a lack of commitment from some to turn up regularly on a Saturday we would have a few more wins to show for our efforts this season.
