Report

The last game of the season saw us make the lovely trip over to Gransden to play out a pretty lame 0-0 draw. We had a whole host of players missing including captain Neal Coles, Matt Morgan, Tom White, Dave Long, Shaun Poulter and leading goalscorer Lee James. Darren 'Smithy' Callow was converted to a centre back for the morning and Neil Beckwith and Gavin Edwards, 2nd and 3rd in the race for leading goalscorer, both started up front in an attempt to overtake James's tally of 12.

We started off slowly with Gransden having most of the possession for the first half an hour before we came back in to it a bit more for the last 15 minutes of the first half. Feary in goal only really had to make one good save and a couple of half saves where as we didn't give their keeper to much to worry about.

In the second half Edwards spooned a shot over the bar after a good set-up by Neil Beckwith and Ashcroft went closest with a looping shot which went just over the bar.

Leigh Compton, who had been booked in the first half, then managed to get himself sent off with a straight red after he went to kick a high ball but only managed to smash a Gransden player straight in the face with his studs, how the Gransden player was not hurt I don’t know but what I do know is that will hurt Compton in his pocket and that he will probably be missing the first month or so of next season.

There was time for myself to make a cameo performance for the first time in 2012, first of all up front and then I switched to left back after Comptons dismissal.

The game ended 0-0, a fair result in the end. Man of the match for us went to 39-year-old Darren Callow for a quality performance at centre-back in what could be his last game for the club? We will see next season.
