Rover smade the trip to Girton looking for a third successive league win. Manager Barry Rule made only one change to the team which comprehensively defeated Cambourne last week with Shaun Robinson coming in behind the front two for the unavailable David May. The shape was still a 3-4-1-2 with Allison retianing his place in goal, Jakes, Dockerill and Shaw at the back. Stiddard and King remained in the wing back roles with Miller and Williams central and Robinson in behind Stoner and Henderson. It was an awful day, cold and wet and the pitch was not in the best of order either but it was Rovers who started the brighter, Shaw, Stoner and Robinson all should have scored in the opening 10 minutes and Rovers would be punished for this as the game wore on. Girton took the lead when a free header from a free kick left Allison with no chance. Rovers then felt agreived when a prefectly good looking equalizer from Henderson was chalked off due to the home linesmans flag. HT 1-0.
The half time chat was centred around Rovers putting their chances away, Girton had had one chance and scored Rovers had missed 3 or 4 guilt edged oppotunites.
The second half was a bit of a non event from Rovers point of view, they never got going with the front players not recieving good service and when they did not really capitizing on it. Girton scored twice more in the closing minutes to put the seal on their victory. FT 3-0.
It has to be said that maybe Rovers were a little nieve today, you cannot go to a place like Girton on a day like that and create some real quality oppotunities and not put them away. We also seemed to lack a natural leader to drive the lads on in difficult conditions. Manager Rule said "It was men against boys at times today, especially in the second period. They had allot of experienced players out there and we never got our football going to combat their style. It was a learning curve for allot of the young lads today on how they may needs to sometimes puff out their chests and really get stuck in if the pretty stuff is not working but we`ve had a good run and are definatley going the right way - maybe just need to toughen up a bit"
