The boys went into their final game of the season, knowing that Monotype were played 19 won 18, so a only a win would do.

For the first time I can report hot and sunny, so much so that your intrepid reporter took to the woods!

Early doors and touch for Safe Hands Adam.  Monotype attack but Adam gathers again.

Louis wins a free kick and it’s saved after 7 minutes but gradually we awake from our slumbers. Lombardo plays to Ollie then up to Taylor but just wide.

A foul to Monotype 25 yards out which is the theme for the day but just over.

After 11 a lovely run from Mikey sees Taylor lob just wide. Zak and Jack hoof the ball clear in quick succession.  Louis plays through to Ollie but the balls runs away down hill.

We begin to look dangerous and Ollie wins a battle popping the ball to Ryan Lombardo who lobs the keeper for 1-0 after 24 mins.

Zac tackles and picks up a harsh booking, Monotype break swiftly to score but it’s offside.

After 29 Louis throws and we win a corner, Ryan Fowler hits a beauty high to the back stick and it’s straight in for 2-0.

Monotype press and the ball breaks kindly and is slammed passed Adam for 2-1 after 36 but we hold firm to half time.

The 2^nd half commences and Adam again gets an early touch.

Fowler takes a free kick and it’s cleared straight back, he puts a beauty in from and our right and there is Ollie Sitch to steer the ball home high left over the keeper for 3-1 after 43 mins.

Selsdon settle but Monotype still look dangerous.  Charlie gets a lovely tackle in and Billy looks assured, surely we are home and dry!

Fowler takes a corner and Ollie shoots wide, Taylor and Louis combine but Monotype clear.

After 60 Monotype win a series of free kicks and corners and just shave our post, rather too close.  Ollie tries to win in midfield but twists his ankle and he’s off, but we’re winding down the clock.

70 minutes and Monotype win yet another free kick in the middle, it’s a cracking goal top right for 3-2.

Their tails are up and after 71 minutes it’s another well taken goal from open play.    3-3 and we’re down and out!

Monotype roar upfield but Mikey clears. We win a free kick. Ryan F launches the ball in but it’s a push so the ref blows.

80 minutes and full time beckons. Mikey is fouled and it’s 22 yards out just right for Ryan Fowler.  He steps up and hits it, an absolute beauty soars into the top corner.    4-3 and an unbelievable finish.

The ref plays 6 minutes extra, the longest 6 minutes ever, but Adam saves, Ryan Lombardo stops a throw in and kicks away in quick succession for 2 yellows and off!

Finally Taylor whacks upfield and the ref blows his final whistle.

Selsdon Juniors Champions!

You thought the premiership and the Champions League were close but this tops the lot!  Congratulations to the boys and commiserations to Monotype who have had a great season but were alas pipped at the post. A fantastic never say die attitude today and the League and Cup double certainly eases the Surrey Cup Semi Final defeat.

What a fitting tribute the final game for John Fowler and the boys from Selsdon Juniors U16a. "It’s all been very nice".
