CLUB HISTORY
A BRIEF CLUB HISTORY (29/07/07)

SEVENOAKS TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB (FOUNDED 1883)

Although Town were founder members of the original Kent League, early records are very few. However, on 26th April 1893 Sevenoaks Town played Royal Arsenal, at the time the only professional team in the South of England, and over 1000 spectators watched the game at Knole Paddock. The proceeds of the game were divided between two local hospitals.

In 1900/1901 Sevenoaks Town won the Sevenoaks Charity Cup for the first time. They won again in 1904/1905 and retained the cup the following year. In 1906 Sevenoaks Town became one of the founder members of the present Sevenoaks League.

In 1951 Sevenoaks Town amalgamated with St. John’s United, a local side, and became members of the Kent Amateur League (Western Region). In 1965/1966 they won the Division One League Cup, and in 1968/1969 they won the Premier Division and repeated the feat in 1975/1976.

In 1984 the Western and Eastern Regions of the Kent Amateur League were amalgamated to become the present Kent County Football League. Sevenoaks Town won the Premier League in its first season, and again in seasons 1995/1996 and 2002/2003. Our other trophies won include the Intermediate Challenge Shield twice, the Inter-Regional Cup twice, Kent Junior Cup Group A three times, and the Sevenoaks Charity Cup twelve times.

Season 2003/2004 saw a fresh challenge as the club returned to the Kent League after an absence of a century. Sevenoaks Town made considerable improvements to their ground at Greatness Park, including changing rooms and floodlights, and finished a creditable 11th position. The Reserves joined the first team in the Kent League Div 2, having completed the double two seasons running by winning both the League and Cup in the Kent County League Reserve Division.

The following seasons saw a number of management changes at 1st team level as the club worked hard to get established at the higher level. Following a poor run of form in which the club found it rooted at the bottom of the league November 2005 saw the experienced duo of Derek Moore and Bob Pittaway take charge as joint first team managers for the remainder of that season.

Under the guidance of Moore & Pittaway season 2006/07 saw improvement on the pitch which resulted in the club achieving the highest ever league position and reaching the semi final of the Kent Senior Trophy.
