Report

Shildon AFC made the short journey on Saturday 10th September 2011 to play local rivals Newton Aycliffe in the 1st Round Qualifying of the F.A. Vase and came away slightly disappointed by the 0 - 0 score-line.
In the 1st minute Aycliffe's No 11 Josh Gray's shot was just wide.
For the majority of the half both teams were evenly matched, with neither team creating any scoring chances.
However, on 44 mins.Shildon's Lee Chapman beat two men and fired in, but keeper Scott Pocklington made a fine stop.
A minute later Danny Richmond found Chris McCabe unmarked on the penalty spot, but he lobed the ball over the bar, with the goal at his mercy.

Half Time:  Newton Aycliffe  0  Shildon  0

On the hour Steve Johnson was brought down by keeper Scott Pocklington for a yellow card.
At times it appeared as thought both teams were on the wrong playing pitch. They could have been on the ajacent rugby field, with several shots going high and wide no where near goal.
On 71 mins. Warren Byrne had a left foot drive from 12 yards palmed away by keeper Pocklington.
Two mins. later Aycliffe's  Elliott Gardner's shot was saved by Keith Finch.
Near the end of normal time Steve Johnson headed just over and Warren Byrne was through, but his shot was weak.
Just before 90 mins. and extra time looming, No 9 for Aycliffe, Andrew Appleby could have won the game, but he somehow blasted over the bar.
Extra time was played but still no goals, with both sides missing opportunities to win the game.
On 94 mins. Aycliff'e Andrew Appleby went down in the box hoping for a penalty, but the referee was having none of it.
For Shildon, Steve Johnson missed from 6 yards and from a Warren Byrne cross Ian Watson just failed to contact.
With a minute remaining Aycliffe's Glen Robson should have done better, but he also blasted over.

Final Score:  Newton Aycliffe  0  Shildon  0

Bookings:  None.

Subs:  Johnson for Christensen 46, Scott for McCabe 63, Watson for Chapman 81.

Man-of-the-Match:  Richard Paxton

Not a clasic game by any means of the imagination.
After the game manager Gary Forrest said "This was a competitive game. We should have been 2 up by half time with a little more quality finishing, but overall I am happy with the draw".

The replay is on Wednesday 14th September 2011 at Dean Street.
The winners will play Tow Law Town away on Saturday 24th September 2011 in the 2nd Round Qualifying.
