Shildon AFc played their last game of the season at home to 3rd place Dunston UTS on Saturday 28th April 2012 and lost a close encounter by a single goal. The Railwaymen finished 10th in the league. Early on Shildon's keeper Keith Finch turned an Andrew Bulford effort over the crossbar and, at the other end, Chris McCabe header hit the post and from the rebound Ben Wood rushed in and put the ball over, with the goal at his mercy. Billy Greulich-Smith brought danger to UTS goal before he was hacked down, then going off injured. Just before half time Dunston scored the only goal of the game when Chris Swailes headed in through a crowded 6 yard box.

There were chances for both sides in the second half. On 47 minutes Chris McCabe headed just past the post. For Dunston Andrew Bulford chased a long ball through the middle but he lobbed the ball over the bar. Shildon pressed for the equaliser and brilliant work by Sam Garvie saw his shot scrambled off the line by defender Michael Robson. Near the end good work from Chris McCabe found Wayne Gredziak but again, for the second time, he headed over.
