LONGURST PLEASED WITH FITNESS LEVELS
Metrogas 1-1 Slade Green (Friendly)

Lee Barnett was again on target as Green played out a 1-1 draw with Kent County League side Metrogas this afternoon. The New Eltham club are managed by former Beckenham assistant manager Billy Hughes and he has attracted several ex Becks players from Eden Park Avenue to play under him. Green had enough chances in the early part of this game to win this game comfortably however Matt Longhurst was still reasonably happy with the performance. He commented ‘We played some good football out there today and passed the ball around well, but were guilty of missing a spate of clear cut chances early on, last week we took them (7-1 against Rusthall). However at this stage of the pre season preparation I am more concerned about the fitness levels of the players and these were very good this afternoon’. Green were without Raphael Akala and two summer singings from Dartford Dan Westerman and Jamie Lawrence however another new arrival former Faversham striker Ricky Freeman again impressed in the Green attack. Green are again on the road this coming Tuesday with a trip to Snodland. Meanwhile the first piece of silverware this season will be up for grabs on Thursday when Green and Thamesmead meet for the inugural ‘Chopper’ Harris Trophy at Bayliss Avenue.

LATEST PRE SEASON RESULT
Rusthall 1-7 Green
Raphael Akala and new signing Ricky Freeman led the way with two goals apiece at Jockey Farm this afternoon, aided with goal from Lee Barnett, Ricky McDonnell and Sam May.
REACTION FROM MATT LONGHURST TO FOLLOW.

MATT LONGHURST LOOKS BACK AT GREEN'S 2-1 WIN OVER BROMLEY XI on Wednesday night.
Being our first competitive game togther it was always going to be a tough start especially against higher league opposition , albeit we didnt play the first team Bromley had trialists playing that will either end up in their squad or someone elses above the Kent League as well as a couple of players that had played the previous night against Charlton and were then made up with players from their PASE scheme , so it was a good work out for both teams , both teams tried to pass the ball and I felt that we kept our shape with and without the ball really well no matter which players were on show . The opening goal was scored by Lee Barnett after Geordie won the ball deep in their half and released Barnett and Lee gently guided the ball past the Bromley keeper Ashley Jones a previous team mate of Lee s at QPR , we then get on top and dictated the play for long periods with Sam Biggs only really having to deal with long range efforts the back four looked comfortable and skipper on the night Sam Groombridge looked very confortable with Ben Payne alongside him. the second goal came from a free kick from Daniel Westerman and was met by Raph Akala whose shot was turned in by Lee Barnett , also midway through the second half Debutant goalkeeper Dean James saved a hotly debatable penalty diving down to his right and the only sour note from the game was Bromley pulled a goal back late on with a great strike from 30 yards .Fitness levels looked good which is important this season we get off to a good start as we were not fit enough last year , there are plenty of things that we need to improve on but that is what we will do in training we have played lots of 11 v 11 s already in training as well as the running side of pre season as I want to get the pattern of our play in place so its not a big rush come August , all in all a good start some good performances but the result all though a great one is imaterial as that is not the idea of pre season games so we wont be getting carried away and look forward to taking on Rusthall on Saturday where we will play two teams which on paper look as strong as each other so all the lads will get 45 mins first up though is back to the training pitch tonight to put the wrongs right from last night as we have the lads back in tonight . And lastly it was the first time myself and Ratch have been in the dug out together and it worked really well and we were both happy with how the night ran off the pitch as well as on it and the lads responded well to Tel as well as myself .
