Southampton Saints ladies and Girls FC

Brief History

Red Star Southampton WFC was formed in 1979, and played in the Home Counties League, and later in the Southern Regions League. In 1991 the team were winners of the Southern Region Division 1 title and subsequently became one of the founder members of the inaugural Women’s National League.

Affiliations to Southampton FC came in 1995/96 with red Star changing its name to Southampton Saints.

At the start of the 2001/2002 season Saints merged with Southampton Football Club with their Chairman Rupert Lowe also becoming Chairman of Southampton Saints Women; however following relegation of the men’s team at the end of the 2004/2005 season Southampton Football Club reduced its commitment to Women’s football and the running of the team has now been passed back to Southampton Saints Girls and Ladies, completing their pyramid from grass roots football to senior women’s teams.

2002/2003 we were relegated to the FAWPL Southern Division where we remained for two seasons. Unfortunately after a very hard season in 2006/2007 we were relegated again and will now be playing in the South West Counties Combination League for the 2007/2008 season. We have a new team manager, Tracey Wheeler, who has been involved with the club over the past twelve years in many capacities, Player, Club Secretary, Treasurer, and even acting Chairperson this past season. She was also Team Manager when the U17 team was set up in 1999, for the next two seasons.
