SBC 1st team History
07 Apr 2008

The First team currently play in Division 2 of the Southern Amateur League after winning the 3rd Division last year (2006 / 07 season).

Following the formation of South Bank CUACo (merger of South Bank and CUACo in 2001), SBC won promotion in the 2001 / 02 season, finishing in second place behind a strong Nottsborough team in their first season in the SAL. SBC held off a strong fight back from their great long term rivals, Bank of England, who then won their last 7 matches to finish two points short. A Dave Brennan last minute save at home to Bank of England in a 0-0 draw and a Tom Tagg solo goal away to Old Parmetarians in a 1-0 win stand out. The First team were then managed by D. Bravenboer, with David Platt as their top goal scorer. M. Caskey won player of the season.

Tom Tagg took on the captaincy and built a number of relatively successful campaigns, often having a strong start to the season, but with failing end of season results. SBC maintained their 2nd division status until relegation in the 2005 / 06 season.

The 2005 / 06 season was a transitional year and Tom Tagg blooded a number of Youth team players into the first team. Many of the Youth team players spent the 2004 / 05 season playing for the 5th team who won their league and came runners up in the SAL cup final. Sadly SBC were relegated, but had an exciting AFA Senior cup run, losing 2-0 to the eventual winners, Old Owens, in the quarter finals. Lee Knight won the player of the year trophy.

Mark Caskey took over the Captaincy for the 2006 / 07 season and saw the youthful enterprise of a new team cruise to the SAL Division 3 championship. Disappointment in the AFA cup again, saw SBC lose to Old Hamptonians, the eventual runners-up, 3-2. Lee Knight top-scored with 20 goals (the first time an SBC player has scored 20 goals since David Platt in the 2001 / 02 season) and Phil Page was player of the season.

Many of the players from the 2006 / 07 season have moved on to Semi Professional football else where. Whereas this is a positive sign for SBC and the SAL, this has left the Club with a shortage of first team standard players in the Club, which must be fixed for the 2008 / 09 season. That said, the 2007 / 08 season has seen potential develop, such as Dave Mccoll and Warren WIlson, and a successful return to first team football for Mark Malley and Duncan Mackay.

We look forward to a brighter future.
