South Leeds originated out of Cockburn High School, formerly known as South Leeds Warriors, starting as a Saturday Coaching Session in February 1999, attracting just 14 young children aged between 7 to 9 years. Due to the interest generated in this training session, within 3 months we were working with 35 children. As time went by and more and more children began to attend and with more coaches coming on board, the demand to play matches against other teams became greater, we decided we would develop three age groups Under 7's U8's U9's and offer these a number of friendly matches to gauge how the children would respond in a competitive environment.
The excitement on their faces coupled with great performances and results encouraged us to make the decision to enter our first junior team in the Garforth League for season 2001/2002. Through this development we were able to attract many more players of all age groups and by season 2002/2003 we able to enter teams in U9's, U10's, U11's and U12's.
At this stage we moved grounds basing ourselves at the Hunslet Warriors Rugby League Club, we were operating there until season 2004/2005 when it became apparent in order for the club to grow we would need to find a larger site, so in June 2005 we relocated to Middleton, where we are currently situated behind the Leisure Centre. As a result of this move many of our current players are able to walk to training, and we have been fortunate to attract many more children due to the large residential area.
