Peter Lambe

Dear Parent/Guardian

As we start to approach the new season I would just like to remind everybody of their responsibilities when watching their children play. As parents and Guardians you are the most impressionable person in your child’s life and to set a bad example is going to rub off on your child. Please applaud good play by BOTH teams show a sportsman like manner and this will rub off on the children.

Refrain from moaning about the referees decision they will not change their minds. As a qualified referee myself I have found the better footballing sides are the more disciplined than the ones that do not moan. Referee’s do miss some incidents as there is only one of them and they can not get every angle on the pitch. So give them a break and let them do their job to the best of their ability.

There is a shortage of referees and the majority of them quit due to touchline abuse, 80% of new ref’s do not carry on after their first season. This in effect means you will have new inexperienced ref’s every season that will make mistakes because they get better through experience. As you can see this creates problems year after year so please think on when you feel you should have got that free kick, what you say may push another ref out of the game.
The most serious point on this is that a number of your refs will be young lads and lasses and your comments to them could also be child abuse.
If you feel that strongly about the poor standard of referee’s get yourself qualified and you can then show the world how good you are.

Lastly I would like to wish all our teams the best of luck for the new season

If any Parent/Guardian wishes to discuss any issues with either myself or Helen the Club Secretary then please feel free to contact either of us.

Thanks in advance for your co-operation in this matter

WELL DONE TO THE UNDER 15'S LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

UNDER 15 LFA CUP FINAL

Well done to Russ, Dave and the lads who won The Under 15 LFA Cup on Tuesday night. This is a magnificent achievement and credit has to be given to all the lads who played so well during the game. The team was well supported by the Spirit masses who outnumbered the Tottinton support with the majority of the age groups having support there. I am sure Russ, Dave and the lads appreciated this.

The game started well for Spirit when Jack Duggan opened the scoring early on. The game was pretty even throughout the first half with both teams having there fair share of chances. Tottington came out strong in the second half but struggled to break through the Spirit defence who where magnificent all game. Spirit began to take control as the half wore on and kept Tottington pinned in their own half but they could not get that second goal that would have killed off the game. As the game was drawing its conclusion Tottington were awarded a free kick in the Spirit half they new it would be their last chance as they threw their keeper came up for the free kick. The kick was lumped into the box a Spirit head half cleared it and it fell to a Tottington player who fired the ball into the net. Spirit kicked off and the ref blew for full time. Extra time was once again mainly all Spirit but they failed to score that crucial goal.
Penalties were to conclude the game which is a very harsh way after progressing through all the rounds and it was Spirit who kept their nerve to secure the victory. Credit must be given to every player that stepped up to take a penalty because this is a nerve racking experience. Although I think some of the parents would be saying it is more nerve racking watching.
In my opinion the best team won on the night which is not always the case when a game is decided on these

I have posted some pictures of the night on the website (left hand column) click on the photo gallery and hopefully there will be more to follow.

Phil Heywood's photo's can now been viewed. Go to the useful links and click on LFA Cup Final to see these. They are well worth viewing
