Let’s face it, if Thornton could have got their first 11 on the pitch from the start today. It may have been a different result. We did go 4-3-3 in the fist half, we tried to play football, but in those conditions on that pitch it is virtually impossible.
We took an early lead though Jack Richardson after a handball on the line. We then passed the ball around for Reece L to slot in a second, in an identical move Reece L, nearly got us a third, but was narrowly wide. It was not until about 5 mins before the end of the half, a sharp turn and shot from Adam for our third, left us feeling slightly comfortable. This gave us cushion for the 2nd half against the wind. In the second half we came out like we thought we had it won already. They provided a good response to bring themselves back into it at 3 – 1. At this point they were all over us and Liam produced a couple of fine stops and Dane, Seb & Ryan had to be very sharp. A fine run and shot from George produced our 4th, they again hit back to make it 4-2. Then Jac B, produced a fine shot which hit the bar and Curtis followed up to get us a 5th. Will who had an excellent game on the right when he came on produced a fine cross which Curtis volleyed wide. We managed to play out the rest of the half without further alarms.
We struggled a little in midfield with the exception of Riley who had an excellent game. Ben came on in the second half and did his best to play people in, Reece E who started in the 1st half has a reasonable game on the left as did Adam in a 3 man attack. Cazza did ok at left-back and shored us up in midfield when he came on again in the 2nd half.
We did miss William GG, who may be out for a while. There is an opportunity for someone to shine in centre mid alongside Riley. We did also have a couple of players coming back from illness, but that is no excuse.
All in all we again won, scored 5 goals and are 3 points nearer to staying in the division next season. We will have to play a lot better than this to finish in the top 4. Man of the match was Riley Carlo, with another excellent midfield display.
