Sportsco is a modern forward-thinking football club, built on a strong desire to provide quality football coaching and competitive games, with passionate aspirations to succeed. The Club has progressed rapidly from its recent formation, with the fundamental philosophies of excellence in football coaching and the enjoyment of every player firmly installed at its heart. A desire to see the widest possible participation in Sportsco's activities, has enabled the Club to currently have over 500 playing members, with many more involved through partnership with Evolve Sport. Sportsco Football Club is now extremely well known throughout Sutton Coldfield and the greater Birmingham area, with teams participating in the Central Warwickshire Youth League and Lichfield and District Recreational League, recently receiving national recognition as an FA Charter Standard Club. The following page provides more in-depth analysis of the development of Sportsco Football Club. Here comes the factual part, concentrate now:
The Sportsco Mini Soccer League was formed in 1996 in response to inadequate opportunities for local children to play competitive football in an appropriate manner and environment. Sportsco Football Club emerged from this Mini Soccer League and was formed in 1999, giving the same children the chance to continue their development whilst competing against clubs from across the county.
Sportsco Football Club believes that success is measured by more than results on the pitch and prides itself on the complete development of the child, not simply in terms of their football ability.
The philosophy on which The Club was founded, of fairplay, mutual respect and assistance, and enjoyment is expressed through the invaluable Sportsco FC Ethos that is at the heart of all we do.
The Constitution of the Club includes the following passage:
The objects of the Club shall be to arrange association football matches and social activities for its members in accordance with the following guidelines:
To provide a safe, supervised and controlled environment in which local children can compete in football matches as members of organised teams and develop their skills with the aid of qualified and experience coaches.
To ensure that such children acquire the correct attitude to the game by developing the necessary disciplines and qualities of sportsmanship.
To give equal opportunity to all local children wishing to participate in Club activities regardless of race, creed, colour or S*X.
To establish and maintain an ongoing forum of experience and mutual support that will enable football teams of various ages and abilities to be created in forthcoming generations.
Since its formation, Sportsco FC has always had strong links with the local community. An integral feature of the Club is its strong relationship with Evolve Sport, a nationwide sports provider offering a whole host of coaching and activities to children, parents and coaches. Certain key staff are members of the Club's Committee and many Evolve Sport coaches work voluntarily with Club sides. Evolve Sport works in partnership with local primary schools, providing curriculum time PE lessons and after school sports coaching sessions.
Most schools that work in partnership with Evolve Sport take advantage of the Sportsco Mini Soccer League that is administered by Evolve Sport on behalf of the Club. Approximately 40 teams consisting of children aged between 7 and 11 take part in organised competition and many players would not have otherwise been given the opportunity to benefit from being part of a football team. The Mini Soccer League provides a natural feeder system for Sportsco FC, with 100 players often competing for just 16 squad places.
The U15 Rangers play in the Central Warwickshire Youth League, involving teams from Bromsgrove to Water Orton, with the U12, U13, U15 Harriers, U15 Saints, U16's & U18's teams competing in the Lichfield League alongside teams from Cannock to Tamworth. The Senior sides participate in the Birmingham AFA and compete in Division 4.
We care about the players development more than the team's position in any league table, and so do not drop any players due to ability levels as long as they are committed to the Club. Conversely, we do encourage the progression of players to higher levels, if the opportunity arises. We have numerous former Sportsco players at Academies and Centres of Excellence and we also have players who have returned to Sportsco after playing at this higher level.
Sportsco FC has always and shall continue to develop all players as far as possible in both footballing and non-footballing capacities. Players have the opportunity to attend the annual FA Club Coach Award organised by Evolve Sport for the Club. This provides them with qualifications and training as well as possible career pathways.
The strong links between Sportsco FC teams enables the performance and running of all the differing teams to be monitored and maintained at a high level. All coaches and managers have achieved FA training qualifications.
We are extremely proud to have become a Charter Standard Club in October 2002, a national recognition of our coaching and organisational standards. Despite only recently being formed, we were the first club in the North Birmingham area to be awarded this title. The Club has now been set regulations by the FA to ensure that these standards are maintained.
The social side of the Club is recognised as a key aspect of its development. There is an expanding social calendar with many events, including Big Screen Race Night, Christmas Fun Match, Family Quiz Night, Presentation Night, and Family Fun Day, already firmly established. These events are increasingly well attended, creating greater loyalty to the club and enabling our finances to remain healthy.
Our Club Development Plan concluded:
When we formed as a club in 1999 we had very high standards and, with the knowledge and experience we continue to gain, must always Achieve our development relative to these values and look to set even higher standards to work towards. Quality throughout is very much the future of Sportsco FC.
Since the plan was implemented, we have managed to complete, or are close to completion of, many of our short and medium term objectives. We have formed an U11 side, introduced coaches to monitor development, strengthened our committee, widened our social calendar, improved our links with the local community and have set up this Club website.
It is the Club's view that these developments should be consolidated, whilst simultaneously striving towards our long-term objectives. Sportsco Football Club desires to increase its ability to provide football coaching and matches for the greatest possible number of participants whilst maintaining the qualities that have been at the Club's heart since its formation.
