Following last week's defeat SMUFC were looking for a response in their Bill Manktelow Inter Regional Cup tie with Guru Nanak on saturday. They duly got it as they were unlucky to be knocked out by their visitors.
The management made changes for the game including new keeper Tim Russell whose first job was to pick the ball out the net following a sublime lob from Ben Simmons in the opening minutes to give Guru the lead. When Jaspreet Gill stabbed a second home from close range it looked as though it was a case of deja vu.
However, SMUFC showed greater resiliance and kept themselves in the game without converting their chances. Soon after the break leading scorer Peter West netted his tenth of the season as they dominated, but became increasingly frustrated by incessant whistle from the referee halting their progress.
Unfortunatley a deserved equaliser never materialised but they must take this form into this week's Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield game with Tonbridge Invicta at West Malling Kick off 1.30pm.
