Brief History

In June 2005 Staplehurst FC merged with local rivals Monarchs FC to form Staplehurst & Monarchs United. In the inaugural season the 1st Team won Kent County League Eastern Section Division 2. The Reserves and A team struggled with consistancy in the Maidstone League Divisions 1 and 3.
Staplehurst FC were formed in 1893 and until 2001 competed in local league football. In season 2001/02 the first team stepped up to the Kent County League whilst the Reserves and A team continued in the Maidstone and District League. Monarchs were formed in 1987 as an off shoot from Staplehurst, they were originally called Staplehurst Monarchs FC. They achieved 5 promotions in 7 seasons and finally reached the Maidstone Premier League as Knoxbridge Monarchs in 1994. A reserve team was created in 1993.
The amalgamation of the 2 clubs was agreed in 2005 when it was clear that the village could not sustain two clubs with 4 sides.
