ABOUT THE CLUB

St Albans Rangers FC, founded in 1985, provides football for a range of age groups with home pitches being located at Harperbury Hospital. The club has seventeen youth teams, ranging from U8s to U18s (including three girls teams), as well as an adult side. Our Community Football programme caters for U6s and U7s players, who form the nucleus for the U8s teams the following season. We have been actively promoting girls (primary school) football, with a view to having a number of girls teams playing league football.

The club has an ethos of player and team development and does not participate in league football until U9s. It is important that our young players have all the fundamental skills required to play all sports, and the club supports the concept of LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) where the focus is on training the correct skills at an early age. It is this approach that fosters a good relationship between the players and coach, and is the underlying reason why more of our players stay with the club up to U18s, and beyond into adult football.

Each year the U12s - U14s teams participate in an exchange tour with the Dutch club zsv Zelos, who are based near Arnhem. This exchange has been taking place since 1993, and is unique in as much as the players and leaders stay throughout the trip with host families to fully experience the Dutch way of life and culture.

In 2001, the club gained the FA Charter Standard Development Club Award, one of the first in the country to achieve this, and in 2007 won the Herts FA and FA Eastern Region Club of the Year award in this category.

In junior football, should all players be given the same amount of time on the pitch during a game, regardless of ability?
Yes, always. Getting kids involved is the most important thing.
Yes, unless it is an important game.
No. Winning is important at all ages, so the best players should play more often.
