Saints let 3 goal lead slip!!! After a slow start against Llanboidy last week the saints learned from their mistakes and flew out of the blocks tonight at the school field against Maesglas. The first 40 minutes of the match was dominated by the saints and saw them play some first class football with excellent passing and movement which resulted in a 3 goal lead with goals from the hard working Trevor Woodgate(2) and potentially a goal of the season from John Lumb(1) following superb team play and an excellent cross from Steff Davies which resulted in a powerfull header from Lumb who rose like a salmon peel. Quite possibly the turning point of the match then descended when referee Eirian Morgan failed to send off Mark James for repeatedly stamping on Steff Davies and instead issued him with a yellow card. Following this a combination of bad concentration and complacency saw the saints conceed 2 late goals right on the stroke of half time. Going in to the second half Maesglas drew level after a corner which may have been better defended by the saints. After this the saints were once again scratching their heads following numerous bad decisions by the referre where he failed to award a clear penalty for Steff Davies who was taken out late after a cross in the box, a Steve Jerry Williams header resulting in a goal but was awarded a foul on the Maesglas keeper and a Ioan Owen shot that clearly went over the line but was denied again by the referee. All in all a good game and a good comeback by Maesglas but the saints will feel disappointed in not taking all 3 points and although the referee was bad on both sides the saints will feel that his decisions cost them all 3 points. As for man of the match it goes to Trevor Woodgate for working his socks off up front and scoring 2 goals but was later taken off with a bad ankle injury - hopefully he will be back available for games soon. Get well soon from all the boys Mr T. XX
