St Helens came into this game with the right attitude despite the opposition being 2 Divs higher in the league standings.
Straight from the off St Helens piled on the pressure and were soon rewarded with a half volley from outside the box struck by Joe Dove, although the GK should have perhaps stopped the shot it was a great strike.
St Helens continued to make the higher placed team divisional wise look ordinary and continued to pile on the pressure, soon after a scrambled goal line incident Duggie Hawkins slotted one in from within the 6 yard box.
Peasmarsh then started to try and get a hold on the game but failed, St Helens dominated the whole first half and Peasmarsh went in without a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
At the start of the second half it was easy to see that Peasmarsh were going to try and mount a fight back. St Helens battled well and had 3-4 more golden opportunities to put the game beyond Peasmarsh but failed to capitalise on their chances. On the 78th minute and Peasmarsh only having forced Steve Dennis to make one save all game they scored. Upon this happening half the St Helens team went for a tea party, played tidily wink and made daisy chains leaving just 4-5 players to try and hold onto this potentially great result all by themselves.
The pressure was now building, could St Helens hold on for what would be a great performance by the division 4 side? The answer, No, with one minute left to go St Helens conceded and the game finished 2-2 forcing extra time.
Heads dropped, moral was low, but despite this 4-5 players continued to win the game while others had lost interest completely. Peasmarsh quickly scored and then the real tantrums started. The St Helens GK was shouting he never wanted to play football again despite only having 5 shots to save up till this point and letting 3 of them in. As soon as this happened the players started to blame each other and then 2 more goals soon followed.
The only way to sum up the extra time played in this game is embarrassing, St Helens should still be in the cup and going to the next round, instead they now only have the lower league cup left to enjoy this season.
