A resounding win to finish the season off in style. After the hiccups of the previous weekend, the boys responded well to pick themselves up to beat a good Old I's team.Straight from the kick off,the boys were on the attack and quickly took the lead with a great individual goal from Tim Watson. With the boys putting I's under pressure they gave away a penalty which was hammered home by Matthew Kissane.Late on in the first half,a determined Ruairi O'Connor decided he was taking a free kick from well outside the opponents box.His determination paid off when his fiercely struck shot deflected in off a defender to put us three up at half time.
The second half began with Old I's battling strongly and forcing a couple of fine saves from Liam Kilroy in goal. The boys then got a fourth goal from John Wickham following a great throw in from Matthew Kissane. The boys then sat back a bit and let Old I's back into the game.Only some fine defending by us and unfortunate finishing by our opponents kept a clean sheet for us.
The final whistle went and the boys had made sure of 2nd place in the division with 9 wins from 12 matches. The boys have done brilliantly since Christmas and can be very proud of themselves!
Performance wise, all the boys were up for it today with everyone giving it their best.Particular praise though for Jack Burkett and Daniel Casey in defence,Ruairi O'Connor who was a giant in midfield, and Sam O'Donovan upfront, who had all the parents willing him to score as just reward for all the effort he puts in.
All in all,a great way to finish the season. Now for the tournaments!
