ST. NEWLYN EAST CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL SEASON AT AWARDS NIGHT.
St. Newlyn East AFC held their End of Season Presentation Evening at Perranporth Golf Club. The awards night that was well attended by players and supporters from both their East Cornwall and Duchy League teams was a great success.
This season has been the first in its 102 year history that the club has played senior football and it achieved a highly respectable mid-table finish. With so much to celebrate club Chairperson Ivor Rogers thanked all those who had worked voluntarily over the season to ensure the club continued to move forward and to maintain the high standards it has set. Mr. Rogers said “I’d like to thank both managers for all their time and effort as well as Trevor and Marie Hocking who has ensured our pitch and facilities are of a high standard”. He also thanked Linda Moffat for the unenviable job of washing the kits every week and Carlos Howard for his work as Secretary.
Duchy Team Manager Martin Grigg then presented the awards to his team reserving special praise for Player’s Player of the Season Shaun Pritchard. “The whole Duchy squad have been a pleasure to work with and to achieve third place is a fantastic achievement by everyone but Shaun has been first class in everything he’s done this year”.
East Cornwall Team Manager Gary Wheildon received a special presentation of a signed England Shirt of his boyhood hero Peter Beardsley in recognition of his three years in charge at Cargoll Road, Gary is standing down to spend more time with his new baby daughter Ella and the club wishes him and his wife Jo all the best. Gary also acknowledged the efforts of his players who finished 9th. “With a slightly larger squad and maybe more luck in not having as many injuries I feel we could have finished in the top five” said Gary.
Trophies were presented to the following winners by Guest of Honour and ex-player Mr. Trevor Hocking.
