Report

The seasons penultimate game pitted the vikings against Apollo.  An away fixture on a bright spring morning, out of the running for acolades, but still aiming to finish with a flurry.   The game sparked into life early both teams competing for domination.  Approaching the game with a full on attitude back fired on the vikings as a strong tackle was seen to be a foul.  The resulting free kick left the vikings stunned; standing round like rabbits caught in a cars headlights.  Apollo took full advantage of the static vikings to open the scoring 1-0.  Jolted back to the real world the vikings surged forward pinning Apollo in their own half.  Dean bearing down on the Apollo defenders, left them mesmerised, their attempts to stop him ended up with a viking penalty.  Fin was designated to finish the job, nervelessly he despatched the ball into the back of the net.  Developing into quiet a spectacle as the vikings started to pass their way around the pitch and for the most looked to have the upperhand.  It was frustratingly against the run of play when the next goal was scored.  Apollo punted the long ball forward, the headed intercept sent the ball the wrong way (heading towards the vikings net) further failure to react gifted Apollo with their second 2-1.  Determined not to leave it there for half time the vikings went rampaging again.  The resulting frenzy of football saw Remi making sure that a Fin shot did more than kiss the back of the Apollo net 2-2 at the whistle.

Team talk dealt with play resumed football wise the vikings dominated, of course Apollo was doing enough to make the game competitive and enjoyable.  Midway through the game as Fin was sandwiched between two of the opposition, a foul was given against him, despite being pushed in the back himself.  As Apollo took the set piece the vikings were hit by the same freeze ray as in the first half free kick (they did not move!).  The Apollo striker slipped past to make it 3-2.  Back to instant defrost the vikings turned the football back on, they took control of the rest of the game, Fin shot levelling the score 3-3.  With the time beginning to wind down the vikings had several chances to win the game; non closer than Adam's screaming shot that hit the post.  As the final whistle blew Apollo were happier with the draw than the vikings.  Well done all.
