TEAM HISTORY
Stoconians 3rd Team 2005-06 Season report (25/08/07)

The 2005/2006 season promised a lot the after the past 2 season’s of finishing 3rd & 2nd. But there was still a lot of work to be done after the loss of players to the squad either by leaving the club completely, or by players being taken up.

The start of the season was promising with three wins from the first three games and it looked like the replacements had strengthened the team from the loss of personal.
Unfortunately the bubble burst in three games during October leaving no wins and no manager, with Shaun Atherton, originally the manager having to leave the role through personal commitments.
I agreed to carry on and step up my role but found it difficult to juggle everything and still play. As well as organise players actually turning up!!!!

We carried on through the middle part of the season with big changes again in personal, this was mainly due to players being called up to the 2nd team at late notice and then staying there after good performances.
I so enjoyed those Friday evening conversations with Stacks!!!
This was again at a cost to the 3rd’s and so began the search to rebuild the team.

I started at training and took a number of lads who deserved a chance to play higher, some have taken to it and some haven’t for the moment. But in doing so, all have gained experience & now want to work harder to get their chance of success.

While doing this, the results on the pitch have taken time, with the middle of the season being relatively poor. So much so it left us in a tricky position for the final third.

Our lowest point was the Norris Villa game away in Feb, which also became the turning point for the Season. After this game, where we got hammered 7 – 1, the results picked up and after adding more youngsters to the team we have finished strongly.
From April we finished the season playing 6, winning 4 & losing 2, with both the losses being tight games. We also signed off with our biggest win 7-nil.
Therefore looking forward to next year, things look promising if the squad stay together within the club and they develop to build upon their end of season form.

Extra time, then penalties

Golden goal all the way, removing one player from each team at regular intervals
Extra time, then shootout - players start on halfway and have 15 seconds to shoot
Might as well just toss a coin!
