Swindon Village Rovers FC were formed in 2001 by Keith Roberts and Mike Yuill who set up the club primarily for their sons Olly and Kevin and included fellow pupils from Cleeve Secondary School. Having formerly played in Navy and Lime, the current Rovers colours are Claret and Amber.
SVR's first season in the C and G Cheltenham Sunday League was season 2001-2002.
Rovers had never won anything but the 2005-2006 season was their most successful and they won promotion to the top division outright by finishing as runners up!. Rovers have twice been promoted in the past due to league restructuring.
The team got to the county cup semi finals in 2003 and 2006 and also reached the league cup semi finals in 2006.
Current manager Steve Ireland took over running team affairs a third of the way through the 2004-2005 season with the club third from bottom in division 2.
Ireland managed to steer the team to promotion during his first season (due to league restructuring) and they finished fifth in the league. Rovers acquired the sponsorship of DMR Mortgages brokers (Swindon) in 2005 and are extremely grateful for their input as it enabled the club to purchase new kits.
Sadly, the 2007-08 season in the Sunday league top division was to be SVR's last and they were forced to withdraw with a lack of reliable players the prime reason for this.
The club now look to begin their journey into the World of Saturday League football in season 2008-09.
