cup final report

The Bridge 3 vs Hebburn CC 1

The Bridge ran out 3-1 winners in this League Cup Final in what was really a one sided affair.

The Bridge went into the game as the underdogs but soon got into there stride and dominated the opening 20 minutes with a series of shots at the Hebburn goal including a 25 yard wonder strike from Philip Ormonde which rattled the Crossbar.

Hebburn had very little reply but did test Bridge keeper Harding with a cross come shot which Harding had to tip over the bar.

Then came the deadlock, Hebburn gave away a clumsy free kick on the edge of the area, Kris Moore stepped up curled the ball towards the bottom right which took a wicked deflection and sneaked into the opposite corner. From that moment on there was only one winner.

The remainder of the first half was played in the midfield where both sides stifled any attempts to create an opening.

The halftime whistle blew and the scoreline flattered Hebburn, it could have easily been 3 or 4-0.

The second half saw Bridge keeper Harding pull off two exquisite saves with the score still at 1-0 but Hebburn could not find away past the The Bridge back five who were outstanding from start to finish.

Then on the hour mark Philip Ormonde rose at the near post to guide a fine header into the top corner to make it 2-0 and send the 150 strong Bridge following into Raptures.

Hebburn pressed forward and were rewarded in the 83rd minute with a goal from a well worked move which made the final ten minutes a nervy affair for the opposition.

Rudi Van De Lang should have put the game to bed after fine work down the right saw Philip Ormonde hit a 30 yard pass onto Van De Langs left foot, but his stike from 10 yards rattled back off the crossbar, but with minutes remaining Star Man and the outstanding Philip Ormonde skipped past his marker, cheekily lifted the ball over the oncoming defenders head and cooly tucked the ball into the far corner to put the game to bed and make sure The Bridge got there hands on the trophy in what was an excellent advertisement for local non league football.
