Captains Log (16/11/07)
On a July summers day 6 lads turned up for a training session. After that training session I (the now Captain) thought this team will never take off. A few more training sessions and more and more people turned up, but still we had no team. Then we had our first friendly against Ekhaya (the players who turned up that day surprised me, two of them were the same age as me... Col Gales and Chris Dobson. (I thought Galesy would have retired by now).
We Played the game and won 2-1 and the Gate Team was born!
We started the season with a draw, not a bad result for a new team. Then we won our next game...then our next... it was a great start to the season. Our first defeat was against The Skinners Arms, they deserved it on the day, but we bounced back by winning our next two league games. We then came up against Seacroft W.M.C. in the Cup. A player named Steve Cooper scored 7 goals against us and they eventually beat us 9-6 (Jacko sent off, lost us the game). That same night we signed Steve Cooper and subsequently lost our next game against Bainbridge. The Manager Jay Stevo gave us the biggest bo**ocking we have ever had, after that we won every single game in the league and the cup apart from the last one, which was a draw, the team had been changed and Peanut scored the last goal for us (who else).
During this unbeaten run we won a cup final at Tadcaster Albion. We played The Super Eagles and beat them 2-0, on that night we played like a team who were NEVER GONNA GET BEATEN, the PASSION was there, the DESIRE was there, and the SUPPORT was there. From a a personal point of view as the Captain of the side on that night, I have never been so proud and privileged to be in charge of a squad as good as that!
