Guy Howe Retires
23 Aug 2006

The Old Boars' regrets to inform the Squad and its supporters of the retirement of Player Manager, Guy 'Guido' Howe. Guy signed for the Boars in October 1997 and took over as Manager and Secretary in June 1998. Ever present on and off the field, Guy lead the team to the 1999/2000 Division 4 title and promotions to Division 2 and then in May 2002 to Division 1. Guy scored 10 times for the Boars including several spectacular strikes. Guy has played over 150 games for the Boars, in midfield, up front and of course in goal. Tragedy struck at 10.37 am on 17th April 2005. A week before Guy had lead the Boars to it first ever cup final, but against Sherwood Guy was involved in a horrific collision that resulted in a tibia and fibula snapped in 7 places. After 6 operations, the Consultant advised Guy that his playing days were now over and at the young age of 30. Jonny Lee-Kemp, speaking on behalf of the Club said ' Playing with Guy was one of the great honours of my playing career. He was one of the most gifted outfield players I have ever graced a pitch with, infact, almost as good as myself and in Goal, well if he had been 2 inches taller then he would definately have made it to the very pinnacle of the professional game. I wish him all the very best in retirement, it is a ad loss for the Club and the League!'

Guy will continue in a Management role passing his vast knowledge of teh game onto the new batch of Boars' legends to be.
