| Torbay Sunday League Division 2 - Champions |
A remarkable season was capped by winning the Torbay Sunday League Division 2 title, having gone the whole season unbeaten in the league.
The club have made great progress this season settling at the New pub the Victoria Inn after leaving the Red Lion, moving to Ashburton AFC's Chuley Road ground for home games, sponsors being secured and forming a committed committee rounded off with a league title.
Also so close to cup sucess although a loss in the Devon Supplementary Cup final vs Stuart Social and a Semi final defeat on penalties vs the Royal Standard in the Torbay Supplementary Cup ended any chances of a cup this season.
The other competition the Bill Matthews Cup saw a early defeat vs the Half Moon (1st's).
This season has been a giant leap from last year and with Division 1 football to look forward to next campaign.
The season was celebrated in style at Dainton Park on 27/6/08 with the awards being distributed:
Player's Player - Craig Teague
Clubman - Aaron Dore
Player of the year - Dan Uglow
Most Improved - Riki Worral
Captain's Player - Rob Tapp
Golden Boot - Mike Tapp
Supporter's Award - Matt Teague
The whole team also received the League Winners Shield and a trophy to keep for winning the league and from the Club.
On reflection the Victoria have made giant strides this campaign from finishing second bottom only to Remedies in the 2006/07 Season (then Known as the Red Lion) they have transformed into the unbeaten league winners in a single season, a reflection of everyone at the club's efforts throughout the season. |
