Thorne Colliery said farewell to a season that will go down as one of the most successful in recent times. Rhodes and Rafferty gave Colliery a 2-0 win over a Whatton Utd side that beat them 3-2 early in the season.
Like the Yorkshire Main game 3 days before, Colliery were slow off the blocks, as Whatton took the game to their hosts, and 3mins in could have took the lead, but a rushed shot was pulled wide. With Whatton playing some attacking football, Colliery were using the counter attack to get back into the game, and on 15mins a Fell cross a saw Mason head wide. Colliery took the lead when a through ball to Rhodes caused problems for the away defence, and the keeper and defender went for the ball, only for it to bounce free. RHODES spun and rolled the ball into an empty net. Whatton had a good chance to draw level when a good effort was tipped wide, and minutes later a Whatton forward saw his effort go inches wide.
Half Time 1-0
The second half started, and Colliery were making their opponents to the chasing. Good possession restricted Whatton, and it was an injury that gave Whatton some hope. Sub Greg Atkinson took over for Colliery-s injured keeper, and showed good agility in tipping over several efforts as Whatton tried to get an equaliser. Whatton also had long range chances, but Colliery-s defence held firm, and in the last 10mins the game was made safe, when a Fell corner arrived at RAFFERTY to head home, at the back post. Colliery saw the game out, and ended the season with another win.
Full Time 2-0
