Taking time out for a photo shoot, Thorne Colliery U15s are enjoying the closed season after an amazing Cup Double by winning the Doncaster Free Press League Cup on the Sunday, followed by the Thorne & Goole Cup on the following Wednesday.
Despite being underdogs in both finals, there was never any doubt in manager Steve Holt's mind after the way the players responded to the club's new fitness coach, who had been putting them through their paces from late July.
"The lads took to the training like duck to water and were enjoying the hard graft because it was so varied, interesting and fun" said Steve. "I have seen the improvement with every game, in fitness, attitude and discipline and it was what I expected and I wasn't surprised that we lifted both trophies in the end, even when it came down to penalties, we were focussed on the job in hand" Steve added.
With all of the winning squad already putting pen to paper for the forthcoming season, there are still a few places for new players and Steve added, "It's nice to bring new players in, they bring different skills and keep the existing players on their toes." Steve can be contacted on 07904 649316.
In junior football, should all players be given the same amount of time on the pitch during a game, regardless of ability?
Yes, always. Getting kids involved is the most important thing.
Yes, unless it is an important game.
No. Winning is important at all ages, so the best players should play more often.
