Thornton Rovers Recent History
03 Mar 2006

Thornton Rovers were reformed for the 2001/2002 season in the Croydon Sunday league division five (previously being a Saturday side).

Although Rovers struggled in there first season due to lack of players the club managed a decent finish (bottom half of the table). Things picked up in season 2002/2003 with a change in organization & an influx of new players. Rovers won division five with three games to spare which is just as well as those were subsequently lost!

Season 2003/04 (division 4) started with high hopes of another possible trophy. Sadly after a good start Rovers dropped off after Christmas due to another player shortage. The team ended up finishing in a disapointing lower mid table.

2004/5 (Division 2) was Rovers best overall season which saw them lose just 3 games in all competitions & finish third in a tough division. The team also picked up the Junior League cup after a 5 nil victory + recorded a best ever 5 consecutive clean sheets. The campaign also coincided with Rovers longest ever unbeaten run in their history of 9 months.

The currant season has seen mixed fortunes for Thornton Rovers. An ever changing team, poor form & missed opportunities has seen the team out of the two major cups & facing a probable fourth place finish in the league.
