Report

With Woodkirk unable to field enough players for this game they conceded the points under League rules and the game effectively went ahead as a friendly, with some of their players from the earlier game making up the numbers. They took the lead when keeper Chapman was beaten by the bounce of the ball on the firm pitch, as it went over his head and into the net. Woodkirk were coping better with the conditions and Tingley-s first half peformance was littered with individual errors - one of which gifted Valley a second goal to give them a 0-2 half-time lead.

Another defensive error early in the second-half let them in again, and when they added a fourth it looked all over for Athletic. However,as they have done a number of times in recent games, Tingley seemed to wake up and start playing football midway through the second period. Rose started to put the tackles in and win balls, and Yildizhan and Kenyon clicked at the back and started to close the Woodkirk strikers down effectively. Up front, Winkley was seeing more of the ball, and his efforts paid off when he lashed home a loose ball to pull one back. The goal seemed to lift Athletic and when Bilton added a second soon after another sensational comeback seemed possible. However it wasn-t to be and time ran out on Tingley, who might have got more from this game if they-d played througout the whole game like they did in the last 10 minutes. As it turned out, the conclusion to Tingley-s season sees them secure 5th spot in the league - a tremendous achievement and one that all can be proud of.
