TORPEDO GROVE - Where we began and where we are going.
Origins
Torpedo Grove began life as a 5-a-side team in 2001. The original members were Lee Sykes, Paul Shorrock, Phil Angel, Peter Stansfield, David Melia, Mike Melia and Daniel Melia.
Then in 2002 we decided to form an 11-a-side open age team. All seven of the original members signed on and to date all seven are still with us. However, only five of them play in the senior side. The other two are on hand as "stand-by" players! Can you guess which two? To be fair though, they are very much involved with the junior teams.
Proudest moment
Our proudest moment came last year (2005) when the senior team managed to get to the final of the Stockport Cup which was played at Edgeley Park. Unfortunately we lost 5-2 but a great day (and night) was had by all. The seniors play in the East Cheshire Sunday League 1st division and a link to their site can be found on our links page.
Development
The season(2006-7) is the first year that we had junior teams. To date we have four junior teams. These are Under 10's managed by Dave Melia, Under 12's managed by Dave Melia Under 14,s managed by Paul Shorrock and Under 15's managed by Lee Sykes.
The juniors play in the Stockport Metro Junior Football League. See our links page.
FA Charter Standard Status
We are a rapidly developing club and we are aiming high. With the addition of junior teams come new responsibilities and our aim is to achieve excellent standards in the areas of coaching, administration and child protection. Above all we aim to provide a club where grassroots football will be enjoyable for all.
The FA's Charter Standard is awarded to clubs where the above objectives are sought, achieved and officially recognised. In a relatively short space of time we are well on our way to achieving Charter Standard Status.
