Words cannot describe how the family and friends of Ben Ody Obiora must have been feeling after the tragic loss of such a young life.
Before the match a tribute in the form of a wreath was laid on the centre circle as both teams looked on and all observed a minutes silence.
The game kicked off with Totley defending the goal with the strong wind in their faces. Our objective was not to be on the end of another embarrasing scoreline and the game plan worked quite well holding Dove to a 0-2 half time score, however the second was an absolute "unstoppable" cracker whacked into the top corner just before half time.
Tired legs and injuries proved too much in the second half with Dove running in a further 3 more for a comfortable victory.
Praise goes to injury victims Glen Carl and Steve Jones for making it to the end and especially Jim Heppenstall who managed to drag his "broken" body through to final whistle.
Praise indeep for the whole squad who kept going through to the end of the season where others may have folded. We have a good group of guys who plan to be around next season and maybe this year the league may let us drop down a divsion as, two consecutive bottom placed finsihes, deserve.
At 48 I even considered hanging up my boots, but no doubt I will "give it a go" next season. The future looks brighter with the new pavilion and a new sponsorship deal lined up, and not forgetting the fantastic hospitality provided by the manager and staff at the Shepley Spitfire on Mickley Lane.
