Towcester Whites 2 Billing 1

Towcester clinched 5th spot in the league after this deserved win over second placed Billing Rangers.  Goals from Ben Preece and Dom Riley winning the game for the home side after a real battling performance.

Towcester started well and penned the visitors back for long periods of the first half.  Ben Preece and Charlie Landsborough caused problems out side with their pace and trickery.  Tom Hill, Dan Peacock and Ciaren Newton were winning the midfield battle, getting to the ball first and making good passes.

The opening goal came from nowhere.  Ben Preece collected the ball out wide and was forced to go infield.  He cracked a right foot shot over the keeper from fully twenty yards.  A superb finish from the man of the match.  We played some lovely football at times, particularly down the right hand side with Kieran Chappell, Tom Hill and Charlie Landsborough teaming up to pass their way around the Billing midfield.

With the game heading for half time, Billing equalised when a mistake saw the ball mishandled.  Harry Williams more than made up for the mistake through as he was excellent for the rest of the game.  One all at half time.

The second half mirrored the first with the home side making most of the running.  Billing were dangerous on the break and had a couple of efforts which were seen wide of the post by the very alert Karlan Taylor and Josh Adams, both were dominant forces in defence for the Whites.  Brad Porter marshalled the defence, talking well.  His distribution was excellent.

Towcester took the lead after a great move involving half of the side.  Dan Peacock, Ben Preece and Brad Porter were at the heart of it, having won the ball at the back by Porter, Peacock played the ball through to Preece out on the left.  He poked the ball through to Landsborough, who got a touch towards goal before Dom Riley smashed the ball past the keeper for the winner.

This was one of those games when every player did their bit.  The defence was solid, the midfield battled away and won every loose ball, particularly in the second half.  The wingers were tricky and Dom Riley’s pace caused problems.  A great team effort to take 5th place.
