In the beginning.... |
Turf Moor was first created in 1969 at Ravenscroft School by a group of 3rd year boys wishing to play football at the weekends. The name was established by considering all of the ground names of teams then in the old First Division.
Turf Moor is the home of Burnley F.C.
Our first year we spent playing friendly matches against local teams in the Hertfordshire area.
To progress further and join a proper youth league we needed a manager and secretary over 18 years of age.
Eileen and Bill Randall volunteered to take these positions respectivley.
Eileen remains secretary today.
Turf Moor joined the Edmonton & Distrect Sunday Football League, Youth Division at the start of the 1970-71 season, progressing to the Senior Division 7 for season 1972-73.
Since then we have experienced a roller coaster ride of promotions and relegations, cup wins and defeats, to reach our position today in Division 1 of which we won our first League Championshp of in season 2005-06.
Some of the original members remiain involved with the club directly or via their sons now playing.
Those from the class room at Ravenscroft School back in 1969 deserve a mention because what they started remains today, almost 38 years on...
