This would be the last game of the season for us and we would endeavour to secure all 3 points.
Dom Clarke, Kilty, Phillips, McGurk and Bryan Teevan would all miss out through injury and with Captain Barry Fraser away on work commitments we would also be without a recognised goalkeeper.
John Teevan would step up to the plate and volunteer to take the gloves in goal.
This had been a squad effort throughout the season and we would continue to strive forward as a squad.
Teeves would get off to a great start with a great save in the 5th minute and give him all the confidence he would need for the next 90 minutes.
The Anvil were passing the ball about well and were making forward strides and with total commitment,
In the 20th minute Big Disco would win the ball in midfield and play it out wide left to Kelly who would drive forward into the 18 yard box and square the ball back to Disco who would fire home from 8 yards to give us the lead.
Ashvale on occasion would test out Teeves from long range but any threat in this first half would be easily handled by him.
The Anvil would continue to play well and with determination throughout this half and would go in at half time 1-0 up.
Half Time Gossip
Hattie would spend the 1st half of this match cuddling up and sharing his brolley with Gerry Hamilton the Colville Park Manager.
Miller was pretty quiet if not pretty obtrusive in his brilliant white snow jacket.
Pat Murphy had his work cut out as he had “Mad Puppy” Natalie with him at the game and Teeves no 1 fan Nicola.
The Gingerbread Club is still empty despite curtain twitchier Millers innuendo.
Mad Dog Murray was doing breathing exercises for his end of the season ranting.
Scobbie would now put his jacket and socks into the dry cleaners for their annual wash.
The Anvil would again start this half well and continue to shut down the opposition from the off.
Ashvale would have their first short range effort in the 57th minute and score from 8 yards to level the game, this goal would now lift this Ashvale side and the tackles would now become more “meaty” and at times naughty.
Murphy and Crawford would make way for “Mad Dog” Morrow and Breen in the 62 minute and a minute later Kieran would lose his discipline after a scything challenge from the Ashvale number 4 and foolishly retaliate and be shown a straight red.
With just under half an hour to play and down to 10 men the Anvil would dig in and Ashvale would try and take advantage of the extra man and Teeves would again make some good saves from sporadic shots on his goal.
Bain would be replaced in the 70th minute by Andy Kyle.
The Anvil would continue to play with grit and determination and thwart time and time again the Ashvale attacks until the 85th minute when a corner from Ashvale was met at the back post by their 6` 4 centre back and headed in to give them a 2-1 lead and they would hold out for the next 5 minutes to take all 3 points.
This again was a frustrating loss for us, as we again had played exceptionally well and came away with nothing.
We should finish in the top 6 of the league this season and be proud of our achievements and look forward to next season with confidence and that little bit more experience gained.
There were 11 choices for the Man of the Match after a tremendous performance all round, even Big Disco was in the running, but after “due diligence” it was decided after consulting my pitch side assistants and a season long nagging campaign by Nicola Murphy that the man of the Match award should go to John (The Cat) Teevans.
PS
Next Season all match reports will be submitted to the local press, so best behaviour.
