Welland Athletic kicked off the 06/07 season as Upton Town. The idea coming from former Upton players Gary Thackeray and Leon Bevan after Upton Town folded just a couple of years before after winning the Worcester Saturday Premier Division title. After a fairly average season Steven Avery took over as player/manager with Leon Bevan his assistant for the 07/08 season. It was a season that had so much potential but after missing out on the league by 2points Upton also rued missed chances and lost to 9man Grovesnor Sports in their only cup final appearance that season. Where was Upton to go from such a good season..... The decision to have another crack at the Worcester Premier Division proved fatal as players moved on and Upton sometimes struggled through the 08/09 season. Disappointment was compounded when local rivals Hanley Swan took 4points from 2games off Upton, In the pre season AGM Upton Town decided to enter the Cheltenham Leagues with the prospect of more challenges ahead. After a summer of hard work and negotiations Upton were offered to start life in division4 in the upcoming 09/10 season and Danny White will manage the side for the near future.....
