In 1998 before internet porn was a fixture in every young man's bedroom and methadone was freely available on the NHS, Verona F.C. was formed in a futile bid to keep the young men of Barking and Dagenham out of trouble. Despite its humble begginings, (only 5 people turned up to the first training session) Verona has gone from strength to strength over the years. In recent times it has been known for up to seven people to attend training at one time, although reports that ten people turned up once have been dismissed as "press speculation" by the gaffer, Paul Bainbridge.

On the playing front, despite winning a cup in the team's maiden season, further success has proved harder to come by. Starting off in the bottom division of the Romford & District league in 1998, today the players of Verona find themselves.......in the bottom division of the Romford & District league. While those less charitable souls may take this as a sign of abject failure in the intervening 10 years, we at Verona prefer to view this as 10 years of solid consolidation, before we kick on and achieve great things in the next 10.
