A new era .... the team splits into two ... an Under 14's and Under 16's team and we welcome some new girls with Mollie Q, Kayleigh, Charlie and Katie joining us.
2009-10 brought the girls' team most challenging season yet joining the South Wales Girls League and bringing four U12's Marissa, Rachel F, Lucy and Hollie K into the squad along with several new squad members Kira, Bethan and Becky. The season began with some tough fixtures and disruption but the girls strengthened and developed as the games progressed winning against Margam, Cyncoed, Llanyrafon drawing against the unbeaten Georgetown. They then went onto defeat Cwmbran to make their first ever Cup Final the Gwent Tesco Cup to be held on Sun 11th April at Goytre.
The close season brought a merger of Eveswell United with the Villa Dino Christchurch senior team to form VDCE ! The girls set out on their first season of 11-a-side in the Gwent U14's league against the likes of experienced teams such as Abertysswg, Mardy Tigers and Crickhowell. We were a group of half U12 and half U13s with just a couple of U14s so the girls found it very challenging in the league. We were joined by Lauren P, Ellie H and a few girls from Bassaleg Ronnie, Olivia and Zoe. They all worked and trained hard to improve themselves so began to beat or draw with the other newer teams in the league Cwmbran, Maesglas and Caerleon so eventually working their way half way up the league. An excellent first season which developed all the girls who played regularly considerably. We ended the season by attending the Hereford tournament and accredited ourselves well.
The girls were eager to play games in the newly formed Newport & District League for U12 Girls but there was an endless wait for the league to get started so just a few self organised friendly games were played before Christmas. In the New Year there was promise of a few games but lots of problems over issuing or not of licenses led to our games being suspended. A very frustrating season !
Various girls came together from different places through the course of the season. There were coaching programmes facilitated by Newport & District Junior League followed by a series of mini football festivals held at Coronation Park. The girls entered their first proper mini-football tournaments at Gaer and Stonehouse in Gloucs winning their first ever trophy there .... well done team !
