Certainly not a vintage match with neither team really covering themselves in glory especially in the gob department, with both teams seriously wearing out the word "ref",and somehow in amongst all the winging and moaning and bickering and arguing 9 goals were scored. The first came from the spot after Martyn Thomas was dumped over in the box after holding the ball up well,he subsequently got up to take the pen himself which he coolly slotted home in the bottom left corner, giving the keeper no chance. It was really an undeserved lead as Revolution had been by far the hungrier team and it was a lead that lasted less than 30 seconds as straight from the kick-off a Revolution midfielder hit an incredible Beckham-esque lob from inside his own half which beat Patterson who had been off his line for the kick-off.Incredibly we took the lead again, once again from the spot after Lee Russell had put Tubbo through who was brought down in the box by the keeper,Tubbo once again stepping up to take the pen and put it in the exact same place as the previous one.Once again an undeserved lead as Revolution were creating far more chances than us and and it was taking an immense display from centre-backs Lee Carnegie and Del Thomas to keep us in the lead. The pressure eventually told though as we failed to deal properly with yet another Revolution set piece, the ball falling to an unmarked Revolution player in the middle of the box who unchallenged passed the ball into the goal.So 2-2 the half-time score and to be honest we were lucky to still be in it and after some harsh words from manager Martyn Thomas we started the second a lot better. We were competing a lot more and actually managed to get our passing game together, although still the most effort being shown by both teams was with their mouths as the incessant moaning about every decision continued. And this is what led to probably the defining moment in the game as Kris Muir came through the back of a Revolution player in an over-eager challenge and didnt hold back in letting the ref know what he thought about the refs decision to award Revolution a free-kick as he booted the ball away and launched a personal attack on the ref.The ref had no choice but to send him off and we were down to 10 men.Strangely this seemed to galvanise the team and within a minute or two of the sending off we were in the lead again with easily the best move of the game.We had cut out a Revolution attack and worked the ball out well to Gary Gooding who travelled well with the ball and played a good pass into Danny Knight on the edge of the box who exchanged a delightful one-two with skipper Dru King and Danny neatly played the ball across the middle of the box into the path of an unmarked Lee Russell who had burst into the box and Russell coolly slotted a first-time shot into the bottom left corner. There was now only one team in it as Revolution looked rattled by the speed of the goal after the sending off and it wasnt long before we were 4-2 up after more good defensive work on the edge of our own box this time from Lee Russell who played a smart ball into Dru King in the centre circle who turned and played a perfect ball over the top to Danny Knight who still had plenty to do and showed electric pace to burst into the box and hit an unstoppable shot into the top right corner.Quite why it had taken having a man sent off to spark us into life is a mystery but yet another came again from Danny Knight who after more good work in the midfield from Tubbo and Dru got Danny through who showed more good composure and buried the ball into the bottom right corner to put us 5-2 up.Yet another quality goal followed as the ball found its way yet again to Danny Knight who seemed to be relishing leading the line up front on his own after the sending off,he was causing the Revolution defence all sorts of problems and he played a great ball from the corner which Dru controlled superbly on the edge of the box and hit an accurately controlled shot into the left corner of the goal.So 4 goals in about 15 minutes and the game was basically won,Revolution did get one back after Tubbo brought a Revolution player down in the box which gave the ref no choice but to give a penalty, which was finally taken after about 10 minutes of the award as the ref battled to get both teams to put their handbags away after a few exchanged words following the penalty award. So 6-3 it finished with a good second half display,it was just the gob that let us down especially after the letter we had recieved commending us on our behaviour during a previous game!
