Villa Royale: Born on a Beer Mat
06 Aug 2006

Born on a beer mat and out of a desperation to fill our Sunday's. We initially wanted to join a Sunday League found none available around the area. We took the decission to head for a Saturday League. Villa Royale was formed 2005/06 in our first season we finished in a respectable position and found ourselves in a semi final the final one step to far. Some of the original founders are still with us some have taken the decission to leave. We are in the throws of gathering a respectable squad and onwards and upwards we will march we predict if luck and fortune on our side promotion awaits.

Plenty of stories have been told about how teams form, Charlton through some scruffy 10 year olds on a play park in Millwall would you beleive, Man Utd through a group of railway workers desperate for something to do after work and what about West Ham, 3 men who were off sick from there Thames Ironworks job went for a kick about and had a change of career path (unluckily for city)!!

But forget all them what about Villa Royale F.C?

People will always lay claim to saying 'i was there the day we were formed'! Possibly but who can remember March 3rd 2005? No? Well at 8pm about 30 men met on the astroturf at St Martins collage all with the same aim in mind - to play for the villains!!

I'll have to admit that i had no intention of signing, i just wanted to get fit - but Dave Wilson pursuaded me to put pen to paper some 4 months after the inaugral training session!

Since then there was talk of going into the Crystal t's sunday league, but thats rubbish and we wanted to go onto a higher standard of football...so north lancs division 4 was a better proposition.

The first actual 'friendly' took place on Thursday August 4th and we were beaten by a fairly decent outfit!
However records can lay claim to what happened the following Wednesday when a very experienced Plas Tech side were despatched 3-2 on the all weather at salt ayre, much to my consternation it happens to have been the last time the Dyson duo played against each other! (for now)

A draw with Plas Tech followed on grass at Lordsome Road (Wednesday August 17) the game ending 2-2.

The first official match in league competiton came on Saturday August 27 - Villa losing to arguably the best team in the league, runaway champions Bowerham 8-0.

The first win came pleasingly on September 17 at Bentham when a Neil Jones wonder goal lifted the spirits of the team.

A tremendous cup run, culminating in the semi final was a respectable achievement when you consider what has happened over the last 15-18 months.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PLAYERS, SUPPORTERS AND EVERYONE AT THE ROYAL HOTEL, without them we would be nothing!

DIRECTIONS TO RYELANDS PARK SO YOU CAN COME AND WATCH US! :

From B-L-S: Down a6 towards Lancaster, at Skerton traffic lights (signposted morecambe) turn right, Ryelands is 200 yards on the left.

From anywhere else: Look for Bolton-le-sands on a map, get there then as above!!

YEARLY RECORD
11 Dec 2007

As we close in on the end of 2007 we take a look back at some of the highlights of a Villa season.

Jan:
Early signs are not good, defeat against Middleton effectively ended any cup aspiration. Victory of Gregson though was pivotal in the battle at the bottom.

Feb:
A demoralising loss at Heysham is compounded a week later with a thrilling 2-1 win at Overton in Villas best performance of the season.

Mar:
Villas most productive month to-date, wins over Middelton 5-1 (our biggest) and Ingleton... Mitch began a long suspension.

Apr:
A win at Ingleton kept us safe but embarrasing reverses to Bentham and Middleton again ended our season on a low note.

May:
David Wilson resigns to take up a post in Astley and Dennis Richards becomes Chairman.

Jun:
Martin 'WUZ' Wallis is installed as the new manager and appoints Dee Spowart as number two. Villa also sign Jordan, Shaun, Dale and Phil for the season.

July:
New fixtures are released, Villa to play Squires first at home. First sessions go well in training.

Aug:
The board appoint Jeff as Secretary and Wuz announces a sponsorship package with SEARCHQUEST...he also models Villa's new Blue and White striped kit for the new season. Villa lose 6-1 in first game vs Squires!

Sept:
Moorlands beat Villa in game 2 and the pressure is on, but is quickly releived 2 days later with there first win at Moghuls. Villa fail to lose again for the remainder of the month and start October 2nd!

Oct:
Draws, injuries and on-field issues raise there head this month but Villa maintain a top 3 berth.

Nov:
Progression in the cup and a couple of league wins stem the flow, defeat at Halton though already appears to have dampened the top 2 finish we crave.

Dec:
Villa model new training wear sponsored by LPN Landscapes. Only one game played though - a meaningless cup tie again at Squires.

TOTAL 2007 RECORD:
P 32 W 12 D 6 L 14 F66 A 83
