Walsall Ladies FC carried on their resent success with another thumping victory against Port Vale with goals coming from Johnson, Large, Charlton, Anderson with the other being an own goal.
This game had special meaning for the girls as it was not just the last game of the season, it was the last game for our star player Amber Charlton. Before the game all the players lined up for a special team photo for Charlton.
Walsall dominated the first half and created lots of chances and forced two great saves from the Port Vale goal keeper, with port vale threatening on the counter attack. Walsall again came close to taking the lead where the ball was floated in from the left and Johnsons header crashed again the post and went out of play.
Walsall did have the ball in the back of the net when Captain Walker shot from distance which forced a great save from the Vale keeper and Pervaiz was there to tap in the rebound, but the linesman had the flag up to signal an offside.
Just before half time, Perviaz found herself with the ball, on the left hand side of the Vale Box, she played the ball back to Large who delivered the ball to the near post with plenty of pace where Johnson was positioned, the Vale defender beat Johnson to the ball but could only convert it into the back of her own net.
After the break Walsall stepped up another gear and took the onslaught to Port Vale, after successive corners Walker whipped in a corner from the left onto Large’s head who flicked the ball into the back of the net.
Walsall soon made it three, Large picked up the ball on the left touchline and beat her marker and put another drilled cross into the area where Johnson met the ball and powered her header past the stranded keeper.
The 4th goal came from a long ball over the top by Samuel which eluded the Port Vale defence where Charlton raced onto the loose ball and showed the greatest of composure to hammer it into the bottom corner to round off the perfect leaving gift, which was celebrated by the whole team.
With the last kick of the game, Walsall scored their 5th when Anderson met a cross with a half volley into the top corner, which was followed by her trademark celebration.
After the game Managers Simpson and Duffy praised the professional performance of their team and said a few words about Charlton’s stunning career as a Saddler. Charlton was given a departing gift, Walsall Official football, with good luck messages from all the players and friends.
