Abbey needed a win to kick start their season and started the game well. Neither side side much to trouble their opponents keeper but it was Thundridge who took the lead after a straight ball through the defence was attempted to be run out of play by Abbeys full-back but had the ball taken off him and the ball was pulled back for a tap-in. 0-1.
Abbey then got a bit more into the game and after a corner which was bouncing around, Macca made a nuisance of himself to avoid Thundridge clearing the ball and his slide tackle allowed Nate Dog to drill one into the top corner on the turn for 1-1.
Abbey wanted to start the second half strong but within a minute of the re-start were 2-1 down after Abbeys opposite full back dwelled on the ball which allowed Thundridge to slot past H.
Abbey then threw everything at Thundridge to take something out of the game but their huge punts from defence were frustrating as the ball was aimlessly cleared as far away from the pitch as possible. Even their keeper was at it walking for every ball that went high & wide. Harry Heather was practically a spectator in the second half apart from one huge goal kick that bounced over his head but about 3 foot wide thankfully.
Abbey suffered a blow when Nate Dog was savagely brought down at the egde of the box and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance with a dislocated shoulder. Yellow Card offence? Not when you consider you can get booked these days for taking your shirt off. It is unknown how long Nathan will be out for but we all wish him a speedy recovery and he will be a bug loss as we look to climb up the table.
As the game ticked away, a long throw from Razor was headed goalwards by Barlow only to see a deliberate hand-ball on the line. Red Card for the defender and Barlow stepped up to slot the ball home with the last kick of the game.
Thundridge will not be best pleased to concede the way they did, but cant deny that for the second half Abbey should have been in front and the fact they were simply pleased to see the ball off the picth at every opportunity makes the last gasp equaliser that much sweeter.
