TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS.
21 Jun 2010

WALTON WOLVES TEAR ‘EM APART TO LIFT CUP.

Walton Wolves under 13’s “A” triumphed over local rivals Ossett Albion “A” and “B”, Sandal United, Wakefield United “A” and “B”, South Kirby Knights FC “A” and “B” and Walton Wolves “B” to lift the tournament trophy and become champions.
Walton’s second string reached the semi finals only to meet the Walton first team in a breathtaking encounter which saw chances at each end as Walton’s Brad Shaw who had hit four goals so far in the tournament came close to opening the scores. Dillon Connelly who had earlier scored the goal of the tournament could not repeat the feat for Walton’s “B” team.
The tournament’s top goal scorer Ty Pell soon added to his tally and made it five as he knocked out his counterparts.
The final was fought out between South Kirby Knights “B” and Walton’s first squad where the Wolves tore apart the Knights armour with a brace of goals from Joe Powell with Danny Bullock and Cian Stringer hitting one a piece as they over ran the Knights four to one.
Jordan Edge did well in goal with defenders Andy Higgins and Joe Campbell solid with Powell and Stringer holding midfield together. Michael Edge did well in his spells in play but the damage was done by strikers Bullock and Pell who between them tore shreds off the teams as they grew in strength throughout the tournament.

The players of the tournament were Brad Shaw and Ty Pell. Shaw showed power and accuracy with four goals and two assists with Pell hitting five goals and four goal assists. All in all a great squad effort.

Above is Brad Shaw with his well earned player of the tournament trophty presented by his coach and dad Chris.

Well done Brad.

"REFEREE COURSE PAYS OFF"
12 Apr 2010

After Damon Edge passed his referees course he joined the ranks of many men every week who either get it right or sometimes get it wrong.
After a few rough rides "Damo" showed why he took the plunge after ruling out a penalty where Wombwell sure they had scored.

HOW???? This is very rare but as the player struck the ball from the penalty spot it hit the bar and bounced in the air droping for the same player to crack past the Walton keeper. The referee of the day gave the goal but "Damo" stepped in.....The goal was cancelled.

WHY???? The player who takes the penalty is not allowed to touch the ball until eiter "A" the keeper touches the ball or"B" another player touches the ball.

WELL DONE DAMO for spotting this one and putting the match referee straight.
