WALTON "WHITES" THROWN OUT OF CUP CLASH AFTER COMING SO CLOSE.
Walton "Whites" were up against favorites Moorthorpe Rangers in this the final of the Walton Tournament.
After beating Glasshoughton twice,Crofton Juniors, and Moorthorpe Rangers "B" on the way they were well aware what lay ahead of them in the next game.
The team had done brilliant so far and showed no fear as they cruised into the final with Jordan Dever in goal who had been cool in every game. Captain James Inwood had produced the goods when needed most and his defensive partner Joe Campbell had also been outstanding.
With Cian Stringer and Dillon Connelly firing on all cylinders and Ty Pell flying down the wings it was a good combination and Tom Boswell had stood up to the plate filling in for a lame Thomas Barker Askew up front.
The Wolves substitutes had worked hard and let no one down and filled in as and when required.
So off we went with eight minutes each way as Moorthorpe responded first with a volley which curled wide.
Moorthorpe danger man Ryan was all over as usual and the "Whites" knew to keep a close eye on him as Campbell and Captain Inwood did in the first meeting with the ball.
Walton-s Ty Pell came close with a snap shot and Boswell had a chance saved.
Moorthorpe again came forward as Stringer Connelly and Campbell worked hard to win the ball and release Ty Pell away on the wing.
Boswell was gain doing a good job up front holding the ball up well awaiting backup as Connelly tried his luck with a long rannge effort.
Dever was kept busy as he pulled off two great saves and keep his team in it with the second period looming.
With the scores level at 0-0 both teams went hammer and tong at each other with Campbell and Inwood again doing well as Moorthorpe again threatened. Dever was on top form as he again used the long arm to release Ty Pell and Connolly to feed striker Boswell who fluffed a half chance.
The game could not have been more even as Edge came on up front for Boswell to inject some height into proceedings and a new threat was introduced into the game as he was the target man.
Brannan Pell came on for a quick spell to rest Brother Ty and was then again requested to stand down after he had taken drinks and a rest as did Connolly for Askew who was still struggling with his earlier injury but both held their own with the time on the field.
With minutes remaining before the extra time things were still even.
Extra time saw Walton revert to the original line up as Moorthorpe came on strong and were placing more pressure on the Walton "Whites" who had given everything as Inwood made a fantastic challenge to keep them out and Dever was working magic in the goals.
The Wolves had their chances with Boswell,Pell,Campbell and Connelly all having shots as Stringer fed the balls through.
Then with seconds remaining before a dreaded penalty shoot out a long throw over the defence saw Moorthorpe snatch the winner as Dever Dived to save at his far post and the ball snook over the line as the Wolves switched off for a split second.
With the game over Walton "Whites" had done the club proud with a tremendous effort.
The man of the match went to Keeper Jordan Dever who was also voted the player of the tournament as he had made the big difference in the team with some fine displays and long throws throughout.
Well Done Lads.
