Cholsey 0 Wantage Concords 2

A glorious spring evening in contrast to the sogginess of the fixture earlier in the season. After the shock of the Florence Park defeat Wantage were prepared for a tough game against Cholsey. A strong wind blowing up and down the pitch was a big factor, and Wantage chose to play with it in the first half. Plenty of through balls were played but it was difficult not to over hit them and the Cholsey keeper had plenty to collect. Cholsey were neat and quick up front but found the wind difficult, with a solid Wantage defence in which Harry Boulter was excellent. Once again it was Josh Giles who proved the difference between the sides - he burst down the left and showed great persistence to nick the ball when a defender and the keeper hesitated. Five minutes later the lead was doubled - this time Sean Cooper played in a cute free kick and Josh Giles was there again to knock the ball in from close range.
Wantage were playing into the wind in the second half and had to take care with balls being played in behind them. George Guilbert made some well judged clearances and there were a couple of scares from corners. Wantage made a few chances of their own through Josh Ward and Harry Watts but the wind rather spoiled the game. Towards the end George Guilbert made a couple of excellent saves at the feet of Cholsey forwards whilst Sean Cooper made several great runs and nearly snatched a third goal. In the end Wantage held on comfortably against the side who at one stage looked to be their closest challengers. With one game to go it is now just a question of the margin by which the title is secured.
