Ward Green junior football club was founded in 2001 with Ian Wilkinson & Lew Whitehead joining together to create a under 8s and under 10s which they entered into the millenium league. Ian the recruited Graham Kilburn to manage the under 8s and Alan Fletcher to help in the coaching of the under 10s. The 1st ever game for the under 10s was a drubbin by Kexbro Cheifs 18 - 1 and the 1st league game was a mixed responce with them winning the 1st match 3 - 0 and losing the 2nd 3 - 1 against Rotherham based East Dene . They improved all season and finished a creditable 5th and during that summer the trophys started to roll in with the 1st peice of silverware coming when the under 10s won the Darfield Longbow competition then the following weekend they won the Ward Green anual gala then the following day they won the royston gala. These was the foundation of all the trophys Ward Green junior Football club won over the past 7 years and the growth of such a successful friendly club.
